COVID-19 Vaccine
Ayasha Thomason
Hi. I’m Ayasha Thomason.
Heather Stallings
And I’m Heather Stallings.
Ayasha Thomason
And today we’re going to talk about why you need to get your vaccine.
Heather Stallings
Like a big benefit for this is our residence. That’s the main thing. Obviously what we’re doing is going to help protect protect everybody in the community. But most importantly, we want to protect these most high risk and that’s our long term care residents and assisted living, all of them. And so if we get vaccinated, then all we’re doing is helping protect them in the long run.
Ayasha Thomason
While there’s a lot of research showing that this is very effective at you not getting COVID if you’re exposed to it. So it’s 95% effective for the pfizer and moderna vaccines if you get both doses. However, there’s not enough research out there to show that we can’t actually get it if we’ve been vaccinated and still give it to someone. So we will still need to continue wearing masks until we get that figured out. Some people say that they did not want to take the vaccine because they didn’t know what was in it. What would you say to that?
Heather Stallings
Well, my response to that would be that they have tested this. I mean, this has gone through the FDA and regardless of how quick this has been done, it is still safe.
Ayasha Thomason
Based on 20 years of science. So this is a vaccine research that’s been going on for 20 years. We just now put it to use.
Heather Stallings
Yeah, actually they’re using it from a lot of other vaccines that have been used and they really just had to make a few little tweaks to it. I’m. Some people that don’t like to get the flu vaccines are refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.
Ayasha Thomason
So what can you tell them the difference between the two are?
Heather Stallings
Well, this vaccine is not a live vaccine. And that’s what scares people the most. They’re afraid they’re going to actually get COVID. And so that’s what I would tell anybody. You will not get COVID. It is an RNA protein. All it is is something that’s going to go in your body to help you practice off when it sees it again.
Ayasha Thomason
So it just recognizes the spike protein that’s on the virus itself. And so if it recognizes COVID coming into your body, it will recognize that protein and attack it. So it’s not the actual virus. That’s that’s kind of the main thing I think I’ve heard from people who don’t want to take the vaccine.
Heather Stallings
So we all here at ICP believe in the COVID-19 vaccine. We believe it’s safe. We believe in the efficacy of it and the benefits that it can provide to us, the community, and to our long term care and assisted living residents. And so we have all had our first vaccine and close to getting our second.
Ayasha Thomason
In fact, I’m getting my second vaccine tomorrow if you guys want to come with me. I’m at the pharmacy. About to take my second vaccine.
Ayasha Thomason
Here we go. That’s it. There you go. Done.
