Meet Amanda Allen

Ayasha Thomason

I’m Ayasha Thomason.

Ashley Kirk

I’m Ashley Kirk.

Ayasha Thomason

And on this week’s episode of ICP TV, we’re going to talk to our compliance officer, Amanda Allen. So welcome, Amanda. Tell us a little bit about what you do for ICP.

Ashley Kirk

What do you do? I have no clue.

Amanda Allen

Yeah. What do I do? Well, so as corporate compliance officer, it is my job to make sure that our Admin team and our provider are all in compliance with our federal, state, and local laws surrounding privacy and treatment and providing health care specifically around HIPAA and our billing compliance. We are Medicare providers, and so we are really held to the most stringent rules as far as billing and maintaining documentation and privacy rules, because we are a health care provider.

Ayasha Thomason

So basically, you’re the HIPAA police.

Amanda Allen

I am, I suppose.

Ashley Kirk

Do you have a badge?

Amanda Allen

I do. I should have worn my badge, but it just says Corporate Compliance officer. It doesn’t say HIPAA Police. I’ll add that next time I order when I reorder. It’s really great because there’s so many areas of life where things are black and white and things are either right or wrong, and there’s is how you can do it, and this is not how you should do it. So I appreciate that. I like that there are some limits and rules, and you can find the answer to almost anything either, like in the CFR.

Ashley Kirk

You can go and see if this is right or not.

Ayasha Thomason

What is the CFR? That’s why we have her to look at the rules.

Amanda Allen

It’s like 42.5  says this and you can go..

Ashley Kirk

Riiight, now you’re jogging my memory. There you go.

Amanda Allen

But on the other hand, I also have a side hustle. Again, I love this. Everybody’s side hustle. Yeah. I am actually a labor and birth doola on my own time. I don’t take very many clients and that was actually one of the things that Ayasha and I talked about during the interview process because she’s a woman’s health nurse practitioner. And so it was something that we were both passionate about and excited about. And so that’s kind of the yin to my yang, my balance, because that is completely about intuition and connecting with people and relationships and has nothing to do… It’s not medical in anyway. So, I really enjoy doing it.

Ashley Kirk

One of the things that I love is the fact that you actually go on site, you work with the providers. So tell us a little bit about what you do when you get there with working with the providers on that. That’s what I love is the support you offer them in the home.

Amanda Allen

Well, I’m really missing going out with people right now, but typically when I go see people sometimes for the first year, so I was here, it was the first time I was meeting people, so it was really just getting to know you and then is there anything I can do to help you? And typically what people end up needing help with for me is Care Tracker. So we have our electronic medical records system and it can be something simple like they didn’t know how to move into appointment from one day to another. Or they didn’t know how to save their note as a PDF first before they print it and then be able to print all their PDFs at once for the whole day or something. Just simple things. You just never know because someone’s kind of in this office that’s all cinderblock walls and so their Internet doesn’t work.

Ayasha Thomason

That’s a big issue.

Amanda Allen

And so maybe they think that they’re not allowed to use the facility WiFi. And, yes, you can. Let’s do that. So let’s walk over to the It office right now and get you the WiFi password or get you a cable to hook into your computer so you’re not having to rely on WiFi. Let’s just you know who to you need.

Ashley Kirk

You know who to get the information from. You’ve been there, done that, when they don’t know exactly who to ask and where to go for stuff like that. So I like that. That’s helpful for our new providers because they’re new in the home and they’re just trying to get to know things. So I think that’s very helpful. I love when you go visit the new providers.

Amanda Allen

Thank you. I always love seeing how they’re doing.

Ayasha Thomason

Amanda, thank you for joining us today.

Amanda Allen

You’re welcome. It was really fun.
